Tungsten Disulfide-a Life-Saving Compound And Used In High Pressure Applications!
Have you ever tried to find out how useful the different chemical compounds can be in our daily lives? If you have are not well know of this fact then do some research because you may never know when and how the different chemical compounds can act in our favour. Before discarding such chemical compounds we should be aware of their multifunctional properties and use them in different ways which can be interrelated to other compounds.
What is Tungsten Disulfide?
It is a dry and solid lubricant powder and one of the most lubricious substances which offers excellent dry lubricity which is very rare to find in other chemical compounds. Tungsten Disulfide is used in high temperature and high pressure applications. It can also be used instead of Mos2.Two ways in which this powder can be used is mixing this powder with wet lubricants such as oil, grease and other synthetic lubricants. This will enhance lubricity of the mixture and also increase high temperature and extreme pressure properties of mixture. By this it will get coated on moving parts which in turn reduces friction and improves lubricity and load bearing ability for much longer cycles.
Hazards of Tungsten Disulfide
If inhaled this can cause symptoms of pulmonary involvement and can cause severe damage to the lungs. If Tungsten Disulfide comes in direct contact with the skin it can cause severe irritations of the skin so thoroughly wash the skin with soap and water and prevent further contact. If ingested it can cause vomiting so enough water should be taken and medical help should be seeked. In case it is spilled ventilate the area of spill and clean up the area where it is spilled by vacuuming with appropriate filter, wet clean up etc.
Applications of Tungsten Disulfide
There are a wide variety of applications when it comes to this compound. It can used as bearings, defense components, sliding or rotating components, rollers,in robotics, punches and dies .This Nano product is also used in various fields of nanotechnology. Tungsten Disulfide is used as an aerospace component, marine parts, power transmission components, sporting goods and as bullet and ammunition parts.
